Since 1975, husband-and-wife team Jeff and Jacky Clyman have been crafting authentic flight jackets and reproducing iconic American military outerwear under the Cockpit USA name. What began as an homage to military aviation history became a defining part of it.

To mark this milestone, we’re proud to unveil our 50th Anniversary Sheepskin Collection, a celebration of heritage, craftsmanship and American-made design. Each week, we’ll spotlight one of our new anniversary styles and share the history behind its creation. We’re starting with a bold tribute to a WWII icon: the “Black Ops”© snow top B-6, styled here on Menswear Expert, Ben Brewster. 

This jacket is made from premium black nappa sheepskin with a soft finish and a light sheen. The Collar and trim feature Cockpit USA’s signature “snow top” fur for warmth and visual contrast.

Originally introduced in 1939, the B-6 was designed for U.S. Army Air Force pilots who needed warmth and mobility in open-cockpit training aircraft. With a slimmer profile than the famous B-3, it offered protection at altitudes without the bulk.

Inspired by the rugged elegance of the WWII-era B-6 flight jacket, the “Black Ops” © B-6 is a bold fusion of heritage and high fashion. Crafted from luxurious black nappa-finished sheepskin, this piece pays homage to aviation history while adding modern sophistication. 

The interior and collar "snow top" fur has striking, contrasting “tips” over rich, natural wool offering both visual drama and unmatched warmth. Every detail, from the authentic paneling, reinforced seams to the “bi-swing” back as well as the throat latch and epaulets are from the original military design. Light enough to layer with a sweater, rugged enough for any mission, then and now.

Cockpit USA has offered the iconic B-6 Shearling Jacket in Brown since 1975. Shown above in it’s classic brown color, Cockpit USA’s original B-6 is also available to order. Please note that the shearling is tanned to “antique” as you wear it, giving “highs and lows” in the color so it looks as if you had this jacket since WWII.
