It is often said that “you can tell a lot about a partner when you travel together”, so we asked The Cockpit USA Founders, Jacky and Jeff Clyman and our Pilot Brand Ambassador Couples one question... “How does a couple that flies together stay together?”. Here is what they had to share.

Cockpit USA: How does a couple that flies together stay together?

Jacky Clyman: I encourage Jeff to enjoy his flying of the vintage planes at the American Airpower Museum as I am airsick (bummer), but we enjoy our commercial flights together which give us a chance to zone out from daily tribulations. We have traveled together for almost 52 years and it is always a lot of fun-whether for business or for pleasure. He organizes and I enjoy!  He's become the ace at frequent flyer usage for flights!

Cockpit USA: How does a couple that flies together stay together?

Pilot Annie: It’s a matter of balance and trust. Pilots are innately independent people who like to forge their own way in the world, so it’s important for us to be free to make our own decisions. A supportive partner that is encouraging, trusts in us deeply but also lets us take control and make empowered decisions is the key. Respecting each other and understanding that we are both doing our best for each other and ourselves is how we stay together.

Pilot Bruno: If you’re a couple and your partner isn’t a pilot, there has to be something in it for them. In your case (Juliana) it’s food! I got to give her food to make her happy and to fly with me, or else she won’t come with me.

Pilot Brad Womble: Being gone, on the road and apart for days and sometimes weeks at a time can be tough, especially with a newborn! Finding a balance and communication via FaceTime and on the phone is imperative! Although aviation takes us away, it also reunites us!

Mark Brown : Ashley and I met in college before either one of us was a pilot or even had really considered to do aviation as a career. We’ve always considered Aviation to be a part of our life, but not all of our life. We have many other hobbies and enjoy doing so many different things it always keeps things fresh and exciting! For us, being spontaneous, and never really knowing what the plan is for the week, or month ahead is part of the adventure of life. Even with a newborn at home, we continue to live with the same vigor and spontaneity as we always had… just a little more tired than usual!

With that, we’re happy to report that love is definitely in the air! We’re wishing everyone a very Happy Valentine’s Day, and a very special “thank you” To our Pilot Ambassadors for answering these questions. Also, the first 5 readers to locate the heart and wings in this blog and email info@cockpitusa.com with it’s location will receive 20% off their next order! Good Luck!
