Movie Monday: The Dawn Patrol

Never has there been an American war film more iconic in its depiction of the art of aviation as The Dawn Patrol. Replete with imagery which we have now come to associate with pilots; the windswept white scarf, mid air battle camaraderie between flyers and the legend of the ‘Red Baron’, this film has proved itself to be a heavyweight cultural and social influence! A remake of the 1930 movie of the same name, this 1938 successor is also based on The Flight Commander by John Monk Saunders about the lives, losses and bravery of the Royal Flying Corps. Directed by Edmund Goulding and starring Errol Flynn, Basil Rathbone and David Niven, The Dawn Patrol tells a story of chivalry between pilots but also of the emotional trials higher powers endure as they order their squadrons into potentially fatal situations. Hard hitting and poignant in every scene, The Dawn Patrol is a Cockpit USA favorite and a highly recommended watch for our official Movie Monday!
