She made six patrols in the Pacific during WWII, sank six Japanese ships, damaged four others, starred in the movie Down Periscope and now, after astoundingly managing to survive, USS Pampanito (SS-383) is stationed at San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. Open daily to the general public the ship plays host to over 110,000 visitors a year, and in light of her history, it is clear to see why. After an arduous restoration process to return her to her former state as she was in the summer of 1945, the vessel is not only fully functional but is also a WWII Balao class Fleet submarine museum, a National Historic Landmark along with being a Cockpit USA favorite! So, if you're heading west anytime soon, be sure to check out the USS Pampanito!
