The Cockpit USA “Black Eagle” modified G-1 is a tribute to the heroic aircrew who flew the legendary PBY Catalina in the Pacific, and China Burma India theater of Operations during World War II. The “Black Eagle”, one of the famed “Black Cats” of Navy Squadron VBP-71, seeing extensive action during WWII in the pacific, most notably during the battle of the Philippines in 1944 and was one of the few PBYs to have painted nose art. Our tribute features replica theater made VBP-71 squadron patch, and CBI sleeve patch. Original jacket back art in the spirit of crew painted nose art created by Cockpit USA as a tribute to the crew and their mission accomplishments. The “Black Eagle” features the “Field Modified” leather collar, replacing the traditional mouton collar as crews might have done for easier wear in the Pacific’s tropical climate. A unique feature of the “Black Eagle” jacket is the exclusive embroidered applique’ sewn into the lining that honors the famed squadrons who flew the “Black Cats” during the war in the Pacific. The “Black Eagle” is made from the highest quality vegetable tanned goatskin leather and is aged through an exclusive Cockpit USA process to give it the vintage and worn look and feel. This makes each jacket unique in its own way, and jackets may differ from each other slightly. Proudly made in the USA.
