Brilliant Service - Excellent Jacket

"I have been after a good quality field jacket for a while. After a lot ( A LOT!!!) of research I settled on the Cockpit USA M51 Jacket as being a good choice for me - flexible sizing (being 6ft 6) and (hopefully) 1st class quality. I have not been disappointed. The jacket is a perfect fit and the quality.......well you just don't see this quality in a jacket in 2024 - it's brilliant (none of this mass produced rubbish). I am a very happy guy (even taking into account the import Tax to get it sent to the UK!). One other point - the customer service from the Cockpit USA team has been first rate. Thanks to Lauren who checked my sizing before dispatching the jacket to ensure no issues - and kept me up to date with progress. I had the jacket in my hands in 3 days from ordering it - astonishing. Now I just wish there was a Tan M43 Jacket in my size................."

Loved The Coat: But Not The Material

"No question, the coat lived up to its promise in every detail. But alas I reluctantly returned it because of the material. I was issued both the M-65 in the Army and actually got my hands on a very, very used version of the M-51 from the supply room in the early 70s. The material (and color) of this new M-51was significantly different in both look and feel from the original, if Cockpit brings the coat out in a more appropriate fabric I'll be first in line to purchase it."

Close to the real thing

"I see that other purchasers noticed the same things that I did. The fit in this jacket is really designed to be worn over a shirt and to look neat and tidy while jaunting around the town. If you want it to wear as a field jacket, you really need to buy a size or two larger than you normally wear. Once I did that, I was able to get one that was roomy enough for a sweater and liner underneath for the really cold weather. The first one I bought was the perfect OD7 color and looks great. The second one I bought in a larger size is a slightly faded shade of OD. I don't know if that was intentional or just faulty quality control. Other than that, this is one of my favorite winter coats now that I can layer clothes beneath it to keep as warm as necessary."

Not my old M-51

"While the materials and construction of the M-51 are first rate, the fit is not that of my old M-51. As another reviewer wrote, and I wrote on a since deleted review of the M-65, the sleeves are not cut like a USGI field jacket. For whatever reason Cockpiy elected to "slim" the sleeves from the shoulder seam all the way to the cuff. What that means is that unless you're wearing the jacket over just a shirt (as shown in the pictures) it's way too tight around the biceps. I had to return to the vendor."

Love my M51

"I absolutely love my Cockpit USA M51 Field Jacket. I've had it for a couple years now and I must say, it is one of my favorite jackets. I had my Grandpa's (Korea/Vietnam vet) M51 as a kid and wore it until it fell apart. This is a faithful repro of a pretty sleek garment. It's very well made and lines up well with the original from what I remember. It has solid stitching, quality hardware and strong fabric. They even have the original style care tags sewn in. It easily will last you and maybe your kids a few decades. I recommend."

Love my Jacket

"With one exception. I have to shorten the sleeves by 2 inches. My arms are normal length and the Large size the Army issued me fit perfectly . Otherwise it is great to once again wear the best Jacket I ever owned."
