The Sullivan Brothers were 5 brothers who served in the US Navy during WWII on the condition that they could serve together. The US Navy granted their wish, putting the men on the USS Juneau. Unfortunately, the vessel was struck by a Japanese torpedo during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal and sunk in the in the Pacific while leaving the Solomon Islands. All 5 of the Sullivan Brothers died, leaving their sister, their parents, and their wives and children to mourn their loss. After another tragic loss of four siblings the US War department adopted the Sole Survivor Policy. In honor of the brothers and the ultimate sacrifice they made, there is a US Navy Destroyer named the U.S.S. The Sullivans.
